The Patchway Community Association has always existed in one form or another, since the Community Centre (Social Hall) was built in 1937. It was established to allow the residents of Patchway to run their own Community Centre, which was donated to the people of Patchway by the developer of the area, a Captain Jennings.
It was a thriving Social Centre, with the building being the hub of the community. There were all sorts of activities that were always well-supported, as technology such as television was still in its infancy and very limited, so people created their own entertainment. It was a sports hall, a ballroom, a library, a cinema and even a standby hospital in the war years.
However, there was a period in the 1950s and 60s when the building became very run-down and little-used, so the Parish Council took it over and helped to renovate the building.
The current Association was reformed in the late 1960s and currently holds a 99 year lease on the Community Centre. It has become very vibrant again, with activities almost every day and night of the week.
Please join us and become a member, to help in the running of the Community Centre via Members Meetings, where all ideas are carefully considered for the good of the existing groups and the people of Patchway. Volunteers are always valued as we are a Charity and need all the help we can get.
